What’s Been Announced?

Google has announced the shutdown of its Widevine Cloud License Service (CLS), also known as Widevine as a Service (WaaS), from 13th April 2027.  The current service has been a free, no-SLA, digital rights management (DRM) key server adopted by hundreds of OTT platforms, broadcasters and DRM vendors.

How Are You Impacted?

The shutdown will require all current users to migrate to alternative solutions such as directly deploying the Widevine Licence Server SDK or using certified multi-DRM solutions such as those provided by accredited Widevine partners such as NAGRAVISION.

Failure to migrate will cause service disruption such as playback failures on Widevine supported devices and a loss of content protection compliance rendering current solutions inoperable.
